It’s getting Christmassy already with the three limited edition coins that have been released in the run-up to Christmas to celebrate Raymond Briggs’ classic novel, the Snowman.

Royal Mint worked in partnership with award-winning illustrators Robin Shaw and Snowman Enterprises to create special coins inspired by the original hand-drawn book illustrations.

The coins depict a popular scene, which shows James and The Snowman about to embark on their magical adventure to the North Pole.

Collectors will have the option to choose from three versions created for them – the uncirculated coins will cost £10 each, silver proof coins cost £65, and the gold proof coins will cost a whopping £980.

The Christmas classic was portrayed in an animated film, which touched the hearts of the Brits. The same effect is expected of this coin.

The festive new Snowman coin launch comes shortly after releasing their limited edition Wallace and Gromit 50p coins. The coins were created to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Wallace and Gromit television show that hit screens across the UK.

The coin based on the original short film ‘A Grand Day Out, first screened in 1989, was designed by Wallace and Gromit creator Nick Park and the team at Aardman Animations. The coin also bears the Latin inscription ‘caseus praestans’, which translates as ‘cracking cheese’.
