Spain’s Fabrica Nacional de Moneda y Timbre (FNMT), in association with the Real Casa de la Moneda, is set to release two new coins marking the upcoming Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The 2016 Summer Olympics, officially known as the Games of the XXXI Olympiad, is a major international multi-sport event. Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, is getting ready to host this event. Scheduled from August 5 to August 21, 2016. Record numbers of countries are participating in a record number of sports. Tens of thousands of visitors are expected to visit Rio de Janeiro during this period. Brazil is South America’s largest country. It is the only Portuguese-speaking country in the Americas.

The coins being released by Fabrica Nacional de Moneda y Timbre of Spain are produced in both gold and silver and include colour applications. Both coins share the same obverse design. This side has an effigy of HM King Felipe VI with the date of issue, 2016, placed below the portrait and year of issue, 2016, placed below it. The reverse design or motif of these coins is different except the official logo of the Spanish Olympic Committee in colour.

The reverse design for the gold coin has an impression of the games’ torch relay between two athletes as inspired by the ancient games of Mount Olympus. And the denomination 100 EUR. This is made of .999 Gold, weighing 6.75grams and 23 mm in diameter—mintage 2500.

The reverse side of the silver coin has different motifs inspired by the ancient Olympic Games. And the denomination 10 EUR. This is made of .925 Silver, weighing 27 grams and 40 mm in diameter—mintage 7500.

Their Traditional Spanish denominations know these coins as 8 reales (silver) and 2 escudos (gold). These coins can be purchased from Casa de la Moneda (The Mint) and the Fábrica del Sello (The Stamp Factory).
